Arthritis
Arthritis means inflammation of a joint. When joints are inflamed, they can develop stiffness, swelling, redness and pain. There are more than 100 types of Arthritis like Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Gouty arthritis, Colitic arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Reactive arthritis etc etc) but most common types of Arthritis are three:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Gouty arthritis
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is also called degenerative joint disease or degenerative arthritis, occurs most often in older people above 60 years. It is the most common joint condition in which cartilage in joints breaks down, causing the bones within the joint to rub together leading to pain, stiffness, and swelling of joints. Although osteoarthritis can damage any joint, the disorder most commonly affects joints in knees, hips, spine and hands.
Symptoms
- Pain in affected joint
- Joint stiffness
- This might be caused by soft tissue inflammation around the joint.
- Feel tenderness when you apply light pressure near affected joint.
- Loss of flexibility.
- Crackling Sounds
- Bone spurs
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Symptoms
- Joint stiffness that is usually worse in the mornings and after inactivity.
- Tender, warm, swollen joints
- Fatigue, fever and loss of appetite
Gouty Arthritis
Symptoms:
- An attack of gout can occur suddenly, often waking you up in the middle of the night with the sensation that your big toe is on fire.
- Swelling, redness and tenderness in the joints of the big toe.
