Viral Hepatitis (A, B & C)
Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. Many illnesses and conditions can cause inflammation of the liver, for example, drugs, alcohol, chemicals, autoimmune diseases and viral infections. There are several hepatitis viruses; they have been named types A, B, C, D, E and G. The most common hepatitis viruses are types A, B, and C.

Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Acute hepatitis B causes symptoms to appear quickly in adults. Chronic hepatitis B develops slowly. Symptoms may not be noticeable unless complications develop. It spreads through contact with infected blood and certain other bodily fluids.

Symptoms of acute hepatitis B may not be apparent for months. However common symptoms include:

Hepatitis C (HCV)

Hepatitis C is a contagious, viral liver disease. This disease spreads by blood-to-blood contact, and primarily by the use of injectable. Most people with hepatitis C do not realize that they have it. Acute HCV can cause abdominal discomfort, nausea, fatigue, and fever. Chronic HCV can lead to more severe scarring of the liver and liver cancers.

Chronic hepatitis C is usually a “silent” infection for many years, until the virus damages the liver enough to cause the signs and symptoms of liver disease.
